Every life matters
Recently, I found myself talking to someone who was adopting an animal from a rescue. We got on the topic of their extremely hyper vigilant nervous systems.
These particular animals are KNOWN for their skiddish, fearful behavior. They are a prey animal.
I went onto discuss with this man how these animals don’t really care to much for being held.
In fact, I told him that, picking them up how most humans do, is pretty similar to how predators grab them. Even domesticated animals do not lose certain basic survival reflexes. Even for the most loving and trusting animal, you can’t bypass their natural biology.
If you haven’t already guessed the animal I’m talking about, it’s rabbits. I’m a bun owner myself and my own journey with my rabbit has taught me a world of misconceptions I held and that the world at large believes as well.
In a time where “animal influencers” are a thing, they actually do a great disservice to a lot of animals and their truths.
As much as I’ve observed and learned about animals in a spiritual sense, I’ve also learned that you can’t bypass their very normal and natural biological behaviors. Each animal species, different breeds and subspecies have characteristics that are natural to their species. Behaviors that are part of their divine creation.
This topic came back in my awareness because this man nonchalantly in our conversation stated something along the lines of rabbits being food for other animals.
Hearing that gave me an immediate internal cringe feeling. It’s not the first time I’ve heard someone refer to them so callously.
A wildlife rehabilitator once made a comment during an introduction course into wildlife rehabilitation, about rabbits just being “feeder” animals.
His statement came about because of someone commenting on the difficulties of rehabilitating wild rabbits. They have a high mortality rate. For many reasons, but in my opinion the perception people have of them as “feeder animals” and not individual beings definitely plays a role in that. That’s another topic for another day.
Their statements contain half truths that people seem to wholeheartedly adhere to. Yes, rabbits are unfortunately prey to a lot of other predatory , carnivorous animals in the wild. There’s no denying that. But does that make their individual lives any less valuable? I don’t believe so. Scratch that. I KNOW so. I know without a doubt, they are still as individually valuable as any other creature walking, swimming, flying or crawling this earth.
The divine creator would not create rabbits with a body shape designed for fast movement & agility, strong back legs to run, to jump , and to kick with such powerful force ,if their life had no value beyond food for other animals.
The divine creator would not create rabbits with a diet that consists of foods that are light on their digestive systems allowing them the agility and speed to outrun predators, if they were only “feeder animals”.
They would not be designed with ears that possess supersonic hearing or eyes on the side of their heads to always be alert of possible danger, if they were only deemed “feeder animals”.
It’s almost as if God, the divine creator of everything that ever is , was and will be, knew that rabbits would be at a disadvantage and yet decided they were still worthy of an opportunity to live their individual lives. Equipping each individual soul will the tools in their divine design to escape such an unfortunate fate.
Why you might ask? Simply because they exist, they innately are worthy of their own sovereign life & existence. Regardless of external circumstances & challenges faced on this earth, they are worthy of life. Every soul matters to God.
Every. Single. Soul.
To see any living creature as merely food for another, means you somehow believe it to be separate from you or even worse, beneath you.
Surely, this earth is full of non-human animals that could easily devour me. Does that make my life not of any value simply because something can easily kill me?! No, it does not.
Humans hold these illusions of separateness because they’ve been conditioned & programmed to. Not because it’s actual truth.
God is and always will be, unconditional love. Nothing existing in this universe is made of “no or lesser value “ than the next.
My prayer for everyone will always be for others to see and value animals with the same reverence that they hold for the ones they love. That their sheer existence, is of the greatest magnitude & significance that any life holds. Because it is.
Every soul matters. Now & through all eternity , through every dimension unseen and unknown. Sacredness never loses value ✝️
All of my love,
💗 Genine 💗
